Frito-Lay, Inc.

Frito-Lay operates a huge snack food manufacturing complex in Frankfort, Indiana, and Steinberger has routinely provided construction services at this facility since 1984. Projects have included: a coal fired boiler house, a huge oil separator system, several plant additions, numerous remodeling projects, parking lots and paving, set up work for new process lines, and numerous small projects.

Frito-Lay is very safety conscious and scheduling and housekeeping are always an issue. As a food processing operation, work inside the process areas demands keeping production disruptions to a bare minimum, and extreme attention to cleanliness, dust and debris containment. Frito reps often say “we want all of the crunchies in our products to be natural”. Although this is often conveyed lightheartedly, they are absolutely serious about this, and will not tolerate sloppiness in this area.
