Haynes was hit by a natural disaster, causing parts of the roofing and siding to be torn from the structure. When evaluating options for repair, it was determined that the roof and wall structural components had also been damaged beyond repair, requiring replacements of the entire building envelope, minus the mainframes. Steinberger was brought in on the early stages of planning for this project to develop the safest methods to keep out of production areas, as much as possible, therefore minimizing our risks.
To complete the work, a custom-made, large, reinforced, fire-rated tarp system was designed and installed beneath the roof’s structural secondary steel to prevent any debris from falling sixty-five feet to the production floor. The primary reason this project was accomplished without interruption to Haynes’s production schedule is mainly because Steinberger integrated modular construction practices. Each bay of the new roof structure was pre-built on the ground, outside of the building area as individual, independent assemblies.
The project was very dangerous working adjacent to the furnaces, so specialty safety systems, wearables, and cooling gear were required to complete certain areas.
