Protein Inc. Cold Storage Warehouse
Agriculture / Food, Warehouse / Logistics | 39,523 SF | Multi-Zone Temperature-Controlled Facility
Project
Overview
Steinberger Construction delivered the Protein Inc. Cold Storage Warehouse in Logansport, Indiana—an advanced 39,523-square-foot facility designed to meet the rigorous demands of multi-zone, temperature-controlled operations. This project required the design and construction of five distinct operational environments under one roof, each with unique thermal, structural, and functional needs.
The facility includes:
- A 45° refrigerated processing area
- A -10° freezer warehouse with automated racking
- A 45° shipping and staging building
- An 80°+ equipment room
- A climate-controlled office space
Integrating these diverse zones into one cohesive facility required meticulous planning and coordination across design, architecture, and systems engineering.

Safety
First
Cold storage construction poses unique safety challenges, especially with multiple temperature zones and moisture-sensitive areas. Steinberger deployed zone-specific safety planning, including vapor management protocols, slip-resistant finishes, and strict quality control to ensure clean, safe, and compliant execution throughout the project.
Built For
Performance
Each zone was built to maintain its own temperature envelope while allowing seamless operational flow for materials and personnel. Specialized vapor-lock barriers, insulated floor systems, antimicrobial finishes, and USDA-compliant wall assemblies were installed to meet the high standards required for food-grade environments.
Advanced mechanical, electrical, and refrigeration systems were custom-engineered to ensure energy efficiency, long-term maintainability, and redundancy—supporting stable operation across all zones. Thermal transitions were carefully detailed to eliminate bridging, prevent condensation, and ensure environmental integrity.
Partnership
In Action
This technically demanding facility is a prime example of Steinberger Construction’s ability to deliver high-performance food and logistics infrastructure. By working closely with Protein Inc. from concept through turnover, we aligned construction outcomes with both operational and regulatory goals—delivering a facility built for performance, cleanliness, and reliability.
