Project

Overview

Steinberger Construction has been a long-standing construction partner to Subaru of Indiana Automotive (SIA), delivering multiple large-scale warehouse and facility expansion projects in Lafayette. Spanning more than 1 million square feet of new construction, these projects were critical to supporting Subaru’s growing production needs, logistics efficiency, and long-term infrastructure planning.

Each phase combined advanced construction methodologies—including Butler Pre-Engineered Metal Buildings and conventional structural steel systems—with rigorous site development efforts. From undeveloped land stabilization to foundation work, the scope demanded careful planning and high-performance execution from the ground up.

Every facility expansion was integrated into the fabric of a highly active manufacturing environment, requiring full operational continuity at all times. Steinberger’s team planned and executed each stage with precision—managing access, sequencing work, and adapting quickly to evolving conditions without compromising plant productivity.

Safety

First

Working within live production zones meant that safety was non-negotiable. Each project phase required strict protocols for worker access, dust control, noise mitigation, and coordinated work within sensitive areas. Steinberger deployed dedicated safety personnel, enforced subcontractor compliance, and maintained constant communication with Subaru’s plant leadership to protect both people and productivity. Across all phases, zero major safety incidents were recorded.

Built For

Performance

Supporting a world-class automotive manufacturer meant meeting high expectations for reliability, durability, and efficiency. Steinberger delivered structures designed for maximum utility, accommodating heavy equipment, racking systems, and rapid material movement.

Our ability to self-perform steel fabrication, concrete foundations, and site work ensured exceptional quality control and responsiveness to design and field changes. With tight construction windows and active logistical surroundings, these facilities were not only built to spec—they were built to perform under pressure.

Partnership

In Action

This multi-year collaboration exemplifies Steinberger’s approach to industrial construction: agile, disciplined, and deeply collaborative. Our partnership with Subaru has been built on trust, repeat performance, and a shared commitment to operational excellence. By aligning with the client’s goals and maintaining accountability from planning through final walkthrough, Steinberger continues to deliver scalable infrastructure that drives Subaru’s success today—and into the future.
